Our recommended resorts for beginners

Your first Time on Skis as beginners

Are you going on your first ski trip? Getting started with skiing can feel daunting, especially when you're heading to the mountain with more experienced skiiers. It can be easy to underestimate just how much experience comes into play when enjoying yourself on your skis, and it can feel frustrating when you can't join the rest of your party on their adventures straight-away.

But don't let this stop you from making a start - after all, practice makes perfect! There's no better time than right now to make a start on learning one of the most thrilling hobbies there is (in our not-at-all-biased opinion!). Would you like to know where the best place to learn to ski is? Without a doubt, La Plagne, Les Arcs and Les Menuires are the best resorts in which to take your first steps on the slopes. With a large number of gentle runs and dedicated areas such as the "easy rider" zone, you won't be a beginner for long. Ski or snowboard, the choice is yours.

It's worth learning with someone who is experienced in teaching skiing. We think there's no better place than with our partners at the Ecole de Ski Français. The ESF do ski lessons for all ages and abilities, and have taught thousands of first-time skiers. This school is a good way to learn easily during your ski holiday. The experts will help you feel at ease, and will place you in group lessons with other first-timers or people who are new to skiing.

Completely english-speaking, you don't need to worry about language barriers getting in the way of your learning to ski.

Learning & Gaining Confidence during your skiing holidays

As you learn, you will soon start to understand what all the fuss is about. You'll soon start to pick up speed and before you know it you will be exploring the unrivalled beauty of the mountain's natural landscapes.

It's difficult to gauge exactly how long it will take for you to learn, as like everything, learning to ski takes different amounts of time for different people. It's well-known that the best time to start to learn is when you're a child, but don't let that stop you. The ESF have very experienced teachers and have been teaching skiing since 1945, so you're in good hands!

Many choose to have their ski lessons in either the mornings or the afternoons, then spend the rest of their time on green or blue slopes - to continue practicing their new skills in their own time with friends and family. Alternatively you can opt for longer, all-day lessons if you're eager to master the skill of skiing.

The only thing that's sure is, the sooner you get out on your skis and learn, the sooner you will be able to take on the mountains and enjoy the magic of skiing!

As new skiers, you will also be able to benefit from all of the non-skiing activities and amenities that these resorts have to offer, from yoga to spas, snowshoe hiking to tobogganning, to simply enjoying the atmosphere and culture of the mountains. You don't need to have a single lesson to enjoy a meal of raclette with a mulled wine!
