Located in the heart of Styria, Schladming is one of Austria’s leading winter sports destinations. Surrounded by spectacular Alpine scenery, the resort combines the atmosphere of a traditional mountain town with direct access to an extensive and varied ski area.

The famous Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area connects Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm, offering 123 km of interconnected slopes. Skiers can explore all four mountains without leaving the ski area, with terrain suitable for beginners, families and experienced skiers.

Winter activities in Schladming

Tobogganing on the Hochwurzen

Swap your skis for a sledge and experience one of Schladming’s most popular winter activities. The Hochwurzen toboggan run stretches for around 7 km, making it one of the longest toboggan runs in the Alps. The adventure can also continue after dark, with the run illuminated on selected evenings for an exciting night-time descent through the snowy mountain landscape.

Extend your day on the mountain with a night skiing experience on the Hochwurzen. Floodlit slopes allow visitors to continue skiing after sunset while enjoying a completely different atmosphere in the mountains. Events not to be missed in Schladming

Schladming-Dachstein Ski Opening

On 11 and 12 December 2026, Schladming will officially launch the winter season with two spectacular open-air concerts by Helene Fischer and her band. Held at the famous Planai Stadium, the Ski Opening will combine live music, an impressive stage production and the unique atmosphere of the Austrian Alps. Visitors can enjoy days on the slopes before joining thousands of spectators for an unforgettable start to the winter season.

FIS Nordic Combined World Cup

On 18 and 19 December 2026, the world’s best Nordic combined athletes will gather in Ramsau am Dachstein for an exciting FIS World Cup weekend. Combining ski jumping with cross-country skiing, this demanding discipline tests both technique and endurance. Visitors can watch the competitions in one of Austria’s leading Nordic sports centres and enjoy a thrilling winter atmosphere surrounded by the spectacular Dachstein mountains.

THE NIGHTRACE

On 26 and 27 January 2027, Schladming will celebrate the 30th anniversary of THE NIGHTRACE. The world’s best alpine skiers will compete under the floodlights on the legendary Planai slope, with a giant slalom followed by the famous night slalom. Thousands of spectators, dramatic racing and an electric atmosphere make this FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event one of the greatest highlights of the winter season.

How to get to Schladming?

By train By train

Schladming has its own railway station, making it easy to reach the resort without a car. Rail connections link Schladming with major Austrian cities, including Salzburg and Graz, as well as international rail networks.

From the station, local buses and taxis provide connections to accommodation and the ski lifts.

By car By car

Schladming is easily accessible by road from Salzburg and other major Austrian cities. The resort is located in the Enns Valley, with road connections providing convenient access to the town and the surrounding ski mountains.

Once in Schladming, local ski buses make it easy to travel between accommodation and the main ski lifts.

By plane By plane

Salzburg Airport is the most convenient major airport for reaching Schladming. From Salzburg, travellers can continue to the resort by train, transfer or car.

Graz Airport is another option, with onward road and rail connections to the Schladming-Dachstein region.
