Hinterglemm ski resort

Located in the SalzburgerLand region, Hinterglemm forms part of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, one of Austria’s largest interconnected ski areas. Surrounded by the peaks of the Pinzgau mountains, the resort combines extensive skiing, modern lift infrastructure and a lively village atmosphere.

The Skicircus offers 270 km of groomed slopes served by 70 modern lift facilities. The terrain extends from approximately 830 metres to 2,096 metres above sea level and includes wide beginner slopes, long intermediate descents, demanding black runs and extensive freeride terrain. Skiers can explore the entire circuit between Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn without using a bus.

Hinterglemm provides direct access to several major mountain sectors, including the Reiterkogel, Zwölferkogel, Westgipfel and Schattberg. The resort is also known for its snowparks, floodlit skiing, mountain restaurants and the “Challenge”, a demanding ski circuit covering approximately 65 km and 12,400 metres of accumulated elevation.

Explore the Skicircus

Set out from Hinterglemm and explore one of the largest interconnected ski areas in Austria. The Reiterkogel and Zwölferkogel provide a varied selection of accessible blue pistes, long red descents and challenging black runs. Experienced skiers can attempt the Skicircus Challenge, an extensive circuit connecting Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn. Covering approximately 65 km and 12,400 metres of accumulated elevation, it is designed as a full-day skiing adventure. The Top Express gondola connects the two main sectors, making it possible to spend the day exploring the entire ski area. The resort’s altitude provides reliable conditions from November through April.

Discover the snowparks and floodlit slopes

Freestyle skiers and snowboarders can practise their skills at several dedicated areas across the Skicircus. These include the Family Park U-Bahn, Learn-to-Ride Park, Freeride Park and NITRO Snowpark Leogang, with features suitable for different ability levels. The Unterschwarzach area in Hinterglemm also offers floodlit skiing on selected evenings, providing an opportunity to continue skiing after dark.

Tobogganing on the Reiterkogel

Take the Reiterkogel lift from the centre of Hinterglemm and enjoy a 3.5-kilometre toboggan run through the mountain landscape. The run is suitable for families as well as groups of friends. On selected evenings, the route is illuminated and remains accessible until approximately 9:30 pm, creating an atmospheric night-time experience above the village. Operations depend on snow and weather conditions. Snowshoeing and guided excursions provide another way to explore the Ötztal Nature Park and the quieter landscapes beyond the ski pistes.

Events not to be missed in Hinterglemm

Mountain Attack

On 15 January 2027, more than 1,000 ski mountaineers will take part in the 29th Mountain Attack. Starting after dark in the centre of Saalbach, the most demanding course crosses six summits and includes up to 3,008 metres of elevation gain. Visitors can watch the spectacular start, follow the race live and welcome competitors at the finish while enjoying music and entertainment in the event area. The opening provides visitors with an early opportunity to discover the slopes, mountain restaurants and high-altitude winter scenery

Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Saalbach

On 27 and 28 February 2027, Alpine Ski World Cup competition will return to the Zwölferkogel in Hinterglemm. Two years after the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships, international athletes will once again compete on the resort’s championship slopes. Visitors will be able to experience top-level ski racing in an impressive mountain setting, while the rest of the Skicircus is expected to remain open during the event.

White Pearl Mountain Days

From 19 to 28 March 2027, the White Pearl Mountain Days will combine spring skiing with live music, mountain performances, wellness activities and culinary experiences. Events will take place at selected huts and mountain locations across the Skicircus, offering a relaxed way to enjoy sunny slopes and the final weeks of the winter season.

How to get to Obergurgl?

By train

The nearest major railway station is Zell am See, approximately 20 km from Hinterglemm. Zell am See has connections from Salzburg, Innsbruck, Munich and other Austrian and European cities.

Regional buses and taxis connect the railway station with Saalbach and Hinterglemm. During winter, local ski buses provide connections between accommodation, village centres and the principal lift stations.

By car

Hinterglemm can be reached from Salzburg in approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and from Munich in around 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic and winter conditions.

The principal approach follows the main Pinzgau road towards Maishofen before continuing through Saalbach to Hinterglemm. An Austrian motorway vignette is required when using the country’s motorways.

By plane

Salzburg Airport is the closest major airport, approximately 90 km away. Hinterglemm can be reached by rental car, pre-booked shuttle or a combination of train and bus.

Innsbruck Airport, approximately 160 km away, and Munich Airport, around 220 km away, are alternative options for international travellers.
