Ski tips Pre-Trip Tips Ski Holiday Preparation

How to get to your ski resort for your holiday ?

Once your trip is booked and your time off is arranged, all that's left is to pack your bags and, most importantly, figure out how to get to your favourite ski resort. Here are our ski tips to help you prepare for your mountain holiday journey.

What is the best way to travel to your ski resort ?

Here are the different options available to prepare for your ski journey:

By car

Winter sports resorts are all well-served by highways and national roads that are both safe and well-maintained. Buses and cars allow you to make the journey to the ski resort in optimal conditions, up to the resort's parking lot. Of course, don’t forget to carry snow chains and put them on if needed when you arrive or depart during snowy conditions.

By train

Many winter sports areas are accessible by train, and some are connected by high-speed trains (TGV). Shuttle buses, regular buses, and taxis are then available to take you from the train station to the resort.

By air

Less common but still possible, flying is another transportation option. Some ski resorts are located around a hundred kilometers from an international airport. Shuttle services are available to quickly reach the ski resort.

How to Go Skiing with the Family ?

The car, a flexible option

Practical for family trips, the car allows you to make the entire journey from home to the ski resort. It also offers the freedom to adjust or change the departure time as you wish. Lastly, travelling by car often strengthens family bonds.

The train, both practical and relaxing

Train journeys are definitely worth considering when travelling with children. Indeed, their comfort allows everyone to rest, chat, read, eat, and more. This way, the whole family arrives feeling fresh and ready to enjoy the holiday from the very beginning.

The plane, fast and efficient

Often (wrongly) thought of as the most expensive means of transport, flying can actually be the fastest and safest option. What’s more, for journeys covering several hundred kilometres, the plane is often the most optimal solution.

Which Mode of Transport to Choose When Travelling as a Couple ?

The car for an intimate journey

Driving to the ski resort proves to be the ultimate solution for a romantic getaway. The enclosed space of a vehicle is perfect for strengthening emotional bonds.

The plane to make it special

Flying evokes a sense of distant travel and holiday excitement. Gifting a plane journey to your partner will always be seen as a romantic gesture. A plane ticket is a guaranteed source of joy.

The train for comfort

While driving can be tiring for the driver, taking the train offers the advantage of putting both partners on equal footing. This way, the couple arrives at the resort in the same good shape, ready to enjoy the holiday.

Which transport to choose for going skiing with friends ?

The coach, easy and economical

Coach shuttles prove to be an ideal solution for both young and older people who want to save some money. Once you reach the departure point and load your luggage into the luggage compartment, the coach journey unfolds smoothly. Their comfort, maintenance, and the driver's skills ensure that you arrive at your destination without too much fatigue.

The car, a friendly sollution

The car symbolizes freedom. It allows you to leave from home at the time you wish. Furthermore, the intimate space of the car enables you to chat and share unforgettable moments. The main downside, however, remains the fatigue experienced by the driver(s) and the cost of fuel and tolls.

The train, often the best balance of speed/price

The train is both a comfortable and hassle-free solution. Another advantage is that the duration of the trip is known in advance and is often accurate. Furthermore, preferential rates for groups or young people are available. Finally, even on a journey of several hundred kilometers, fatigue is hardly noticeable.
