Why Choose to Ski in Avoriaz?

Part of the Portes du Soleil ski area in France, Avoriaz is a high-altitude ski resort which was founded in the 1960s.

One hour and 45 minutes’ drive from Geneva airport, the ski resort is easy to access via plane and transfer.

This unique, contemporary Alpine town is situated at 1800m above sea level which ensures good ski conditions even late into the season. The resort has modern, contemporary architecture, and was built to be a chic, exclusive ski destination in the 60s. Many of the accommodation options are uniquely shaped high-rise buildings adorned with cedar wood, giving the resort a distinctive look that was very innovative at the time.

Since Avoriaz was purpose-built as a ski resort, it is well-equipped to give an extraordinary experience to its visitors. It offers a diverse array of accommodation options of different calibres and appeals to travellers of differing ski abilities.

The resort is entirely pedestrianised, which gives it a safe, immersive and family ski holiday feel. There are many family-friendly amenities and facilities, including a water park called Aquariaz and very highly esteemed ski schools.

Avoriaz is connected to neighbouring Morzine via the Super Morzine gondola lift, which anchors the resort in its Savoyard roots and offers Morzine visitors access to higher-altitude skiing.

Modern Avoriaz provides a stark contrast from traditional Morzine. Morzine was established as a tourist destination and ski resort in the 1920s-30s, whereas Avoriaz was developed later by Morzine resident and Olympian Jean Vuarnet, who later went on to establish the Portes du Soleil ski area

Les Portes du Soleil is made up of a network of 200 ski lifts which link 12 ski resorts overlapping both France and Switzerland. These include popular French resorts Châtel, Morzine-Avoriaz and Les Gets

Les Portes du Soleil boasts 600km worth of slopes, 130 km of which are within easy reach of Avoriaz. Avoriaz is directly connected to Swiss ski resort Les Crosets and French resorts Châtel and Morzine by ski lift.
